Default Seagull in California

My first attempt at wildlife photos. Any comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Image is taken with a Nikon CoolPix 5700, only slight correction using Qimage.

Thanks in advance!

This is one of those "almost" pictures. You almost focused on the gull, but it looks like you ended up focusing just in front of it. You almost got good composition, but you needed to offset the gull a little bit to the left side because of the feeling that it's gazing toward the right. What I really like about the photo is the simplicity of it. There's nothing extraneous at all. The way the aqua-colored water contrasts with the remaining neutral colors is really nice too.

Nice work. I agree with bcoultry on composition and focus. It's dificult to bring out good feather detail on a gull under a blue sky but you've pretty much got it - well done. As a result there's maybe a tiny touch of burn-out in some of the rest of the plumage, but they are so high contrast you can only wait for a greyer day.
