When I was sneaking up to get shots of an avocet I literally crawled up to withing 5" of this snake, about a 4' garter.
I didn't know I could move that fast! ![]() ![]() |

The second one is just great! The first one too, but it scares me! Great shots, you're brave... or were you a far distance away zooming a lot!

Yes, one of the secret rules of photography is to get down to the level of the subject. That second one is a great example. Very nice.

niice!
the second one is great! normally...wildlife shots should have the subject with more room in front of his head...in the direction it's facing....but...here...it definetely works...great job getting down to it's level! Vito |

Reminds me of the time I was attacked by a muskrat...isn't wildlife photography fun. You appear to have recovered nicely, as your photos show.

Norm, isn't it wierd how the smallest creatures can fearlessly attack us much larger humans and get the desired result? ...a human backing off...
I've been attacked by a female pheasant guarding her nest and it made me jump right out of my skin! |

If that hummingbird attacks me I think I'll cry.

Actually, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if you invaded the hummingbird's space that it would buzz you... |

Thanks for the responses. The photos came out a little overexposed I think but I have my monitor problem fixed now.
This guy was still kind of sleepy so I was able to get pretty close. He was big for a garter snake. Very lucky it wasn't a rattler, I will be more careful in the future. |
