A Brewer's Blackbird (?)
![]() Red-Winged Blackbird (I have only seen them with red shoulder patch in winter time. My first time seeing one which has red & yellow patch) ![]() This must be a Juvenile male (I could be wrong here) ![]() |

BTW, the other red-winged blackbirds you see where you live that don't have the yellow border to the red wing epaulets are a California sub-species. This one is Agelaius phoeniceus and the ones without the yellow border are Agelaius phoeniceus californica. |

Very nice. Can't believe the detail you got on those black birds.
Those redwings are tough to get really close to. I chased one around a bush today for 10 minutes, never did get a shot. |

These birds are used to people where I shot them, so I was able to get within 10 feet. I have good luck shooting them from my car (suing my FZ1 & tcon-17). In early morning hrs, (in winter/spring time here in CA) there are tons of them sitting on the wire fence, or posts by the road near my house. |
