Actually, many animals are probably letting you get that close because you are on the ground at their level. Towering over them seems to me to be a surefire way in which to get them into their defensive or flight behavior.
Now, on the other hand, if you are at ground level and slither and undulate back and forth as you move, well, that might make them flee quickly :-) (The peanuts helped quite a bit, too) |
