I like this composition much better than the other. What lens and technique did you use when taking these? Your depth of field is VERY narrow, although the subject matter remained focused throughout. Seems to be a bit of noise in the green background here, although that could just be the result of preparing the image for web preview.

This photo was taken using my Nikon AF-I 500mm lens, withthe tripodset so I was on about the same level as the bird. The lens was stopped down to f5.6, but at such close range (about 25ft) the depth of field is minimal.
