Ever seen the size of the needle on a tranq dart, Kevin? That would have murdered the poor little thing. I reserve use of tranq darts for charging elephants and hippos (just kidding) :P
Seriously, I do shoot birds with the 200 Micro quite often, but the 60 really requires that you get pretty close and most of the time that is not an option. In this case, it was the only way I could have gotten the shot with the tools I had with me. If I'd have had the 135/2DC with me I could have shot him from further away, using f/4 to get a reasonable shutter speed and still getting the DOF character I wanted along with the sharpness. What I had was the 60 and the 300/4. If I'd have shot it withe the 300/4 at f/4 I'd have had a 1/200 shutter speed at ISO 200 and less DOF, and it is likely that the shot would have been OK but not of this quality, as well as having a shallower DOF than I wanted. Thus the reason for trying the Micro lens. Besides, I just wanted to see if I could get close to the little critter ![]() |

Ron, that tip yours about resizing down, and the USM settings, was perhaps the most useful tip I've ever heard . What other gems of wisdom do you have that you could share? I have a lot of work to go back and redo now . . .
Thanks. |
