I was able to capture a wood dock near enough to see the colors. It was an overcast day and the colors are not as vivid as they might be.

I love shooting on overcast days - the light is nice and even. With proper attention to exposure and white balace, as you have done in these pictures, you get great shots. Good job. Also, if the colors are not vivid enough for you, try cranking up the saturation in your image editor or on the camera.
Did you shoot these with your 10d? |

Great shots! The male wood duck is, in my opinion, the best looking waterfowl. I love their coloring.

congrats on getting close. Where I am, they have a sixth sense about people and take off before you can get anywhere near them. I've watched them through my spotting scope, but never gotten close enough to photograph.
It seem odd to me.... is it a slight lack of sharpness? Or maybe it lost something in reduction or enlargement? Did people see the female behind the male in the second picture? Eric |

Nice duck shots. I looked a second time to see that female duck. They are very good at blending in!
