Some shots taken a while ago which I had not processed because i was so mad at myself for not maximising an excellent opportunity

[I forgot to use my 420 speedlite sitting right next to me ]

Anyway, I am going through my old shots, doing a de-clutter, so i thought i'd process these and make the best of what was taken

Wonderful pictures, I think you captured the moment very well without the flash !!

I really like the last one too

looks like cataracts, but it doesn't seem to have affected his hunting prowess... great shots, flash or no. frankly, i think in this case,it's better without... the flash would have put too much illumination in the foreground, created harsh shadows, and madeit look unnatural.of course, this comes from someone who seldom uses a flash unless absolutely necessary, because i believe natural light is always best...:?

Hey, don't beat yourself up about the flash. These pictures are great. I especially like the last one. It makes me have to ask if you were in your vehicle and if so what were you using to get such a sharp photo. Do you have a window mount or were you depending on the IS lens.

Regards

Houston

Thanks for the comments ! -

Houston, I was using my 100-400, nowindow rest [and yes, I was in my vehicle !!]. The cat was pretty close, but in quite dense shade, hence the dissapointment with forgetting the flash in the heat of the moment. In fact, I bought my Speedlite after reading an article by a pro wildlife photographer, who uses a flash for almost anything, and he said, particularly for leopard, which are mainly found in dense shady trees, one should have a decent flash handy. So with my new 420 Speedilght on my back seat, the leopard in tree [first encounter ever], I forget the thing. Anyway, some shots turned out OK :?
