Default Yellow-crowned Night Heron

I suppose that there are significant numbers of these in the area, but this is the first time that I have observed any in the wild. This one was across the pond, about 50 yards away (cropped here). I actually have a much closer shot of the mate which I may post below, but there was a distracting twig in that frame, so I chose to post this one first. Taken with the 100-400mm L USM IS

Nice photo. It looks like the bird is a little over exposed, but I still like it.

I haven't seen one myself. I've seen the black crowned once, a few years ago, but not recently and not for a photo. I can only hope. Please, do post the mate!

I think you are correct. I adjusted the RAW file exposure downward on the one following, before conversion. On my monitor at least, this one looks more similar to the photos in the bird books.
