Never would have guessed that to be a Pigeon.....very different from what I am accustomed to seeing. You do have a different variety there.

This species is from New Guinea. The lacy crest is made up of fan-shaped tufts and is permanently raised over the head.It is a ground feeding species that lives on the rainforest floor, walking around slowly and taking fallen seeds and berries. As regards flying, sorry to say thatthis creature is clumsy about it despite the fact that it is apigeon. It flies heavily anddoes so whenin danger or under threat and when they have to ascend to the branches of the trees, where it roosts and nests. Here is a picture of them on a nest they have built among the foliage.

The species should be called the maroon breasted crowned pigeon instead of the one provided in the heading.

Really nice shots of a really strange looking bird. Are they different birds? I notice a "leg iron" :Gon the first but not on the others?

They are partners. The second one also had a ring but on the other leg.The one on the nest is one of them.
