Default Western King Bird

Immature. Taken from approximately 45' distant with the 100-400mm - hand-held. This is about a 10% crop of the image. It would have been nicer with a nice branch for him to sit on, but hey, in an urban environment, you take'em where you can get'em. This was the first time that I had seen a King Bird in quite a number of years.

A little overexposed on the head, but that isn't surprising considering how the background will throw the metering off. I've been playing with my copy of that lens.. its a fun one. With the small max aperture, hand holding isn't easy without good light. This looks a bit soft, but still good.... but maybe that is a trick of the light.

I've been taking some pictures of the eastern kingbird recently. They have no yellow... so I thought this was a bit weird. But I looked it up in my bird book, and you are right... I've just never seen the western version.
