:?Those of you with more experience may be able to help me. I have looked at the Big Ma which makes good sense for a less expensive lense than the Canon 5 or 600, but was wondering if a high quality 400 lense with a 2x is upt to the quality of the 50x500.

I have the Sigma 120x300 and have been working with it, but was wondering if the Canon 300 or 400 DO might be a better combinatin with a 2x.

Your insight please.

Have you tried a 2x with the Sigma120-300?
It will be faster at 600 than the bigma at 500 (f6. something) and I would expect optical quality to not be far off (better?) despite the 2x tele.
A hell of a lot cheaper than getting a big white.
A 400 with a 2x needs to be f2.8 to be able to use autofocus (unless you have a top-shelf camera body) so that's another consideration.

I agree, that 120-300mm is a pretty sweet lens. I would think a 2x would work pretty well. NHL has that lens and would be a good person to address this issue.
