when great blue herons get too close to redwing nests, the male blackbirds get very protective, because herons will eat anything they can catch, including other birds. the males come screaming out of the cattails like little interceptors after a bomber, hounding the heron till it flies away. i'd never actually caught an image of this behavior till Sunday... this RWBB looks like he's pullin' some serious G's!

Excellent captures squirl Nice and sharp!

Unusual flight capture with them coming right toward you. I've gotten a few shotslike these but always blurred and a washed out sky behind them.

thanks, guys... i'd have preferred a side-view shot, but this will do for now. i expect as spring wears on and the redwings build more nests, the herons will intrude into more RWBB nesting spots, and i'll get more chances to get shots like these...
