We were tooting along a trail around a lake in the high country of Coloradoand spotted this female Ptarmigan and her little ones. She was very quick and it was hard to get a good closeup, but did manage to get this one.

They have some unusual markings which you caught very well. I have not seen one since the last time I was in Colorado.
