I'm posting a few shots of a bird I saw yesterday evening about a half hour after sunset. I wish I could have taken these in better light, but this was the best I could manage. They were taken with a Sears 80-200 f/4 wide open. Because of that and the severe amount of brightening there's a lot of purple fringing, but I'm not trying to make these photos pretty. These are 100% crops.

This bird is roughly the size of a robin. I've seen birds with long necks like geese and herons, but never something so small. I also don't think I've seen a bird with a long neck that retracts like this. I tried looking this up by it's description through Google and a search by feature on whatbird.com but haven't come upon anything similar.
