this little fellow wouldn't come close, but at least he was downout of the top branches, so i was able to get a half decent exposure.30Dwith 80-400mm lensand a1.4x TC, manual focus... just wish the light had been better!

That's a great shot Squirl. Nice to see the first of the season. I heard them last week, but they were hiding high up in a leafy tree, and couldn't get a look. ....thekman.

thanks.i discovered it hadn't been reporting the aperture correctly, and the camera was trying to focus. apparently you're supposed to put the TC on the lens first, then mount the whole thing on the camera, and if you do it backwards, it'll give you false readings... i didn't know that.

still not as sharp as i'd like, but MUCH better than i was getting before, and with the flat light in this shot, it's not that bad at all.

To be honest, I like this shot very much, it shows the feathers to be as soft as they really are with all the detail available in the rest of the bird.

I find many shots posted to be very sharp, but not what I really see when I look at birds, this one I find to be extremely nice.

Less digital looking and more film like!
