Thx. I got lucky on that one as I encountered this group while hiking on the east side of the park. There were actually four of them, and these were two of the smaller bulls. It was about 35 degrees and a little sleety, but the equipment held up just fine.
I often find that I get much better opportunities by getting off the road and hiking/stalking animals. Be careful in the Northern Rockies though because photographers do get killed and severly injured by grizzly bears while doing this. A photographer who was hiking and photographing a mother grizzly bear was severaly mauled two days ago in Yellowstone.
Some very, very wild country up there.
