1) I've always thought of american avocets as quite meek and delicate little birds. They spend their day sifting around in the mud looking for a snack.



2) Well I guess when it comes to defending their nest, it's a whole different story. This great egret wandered to close to their nest and found out the hard way.


3) I was quite impressed with the avocets level of aggression. The chased and pecked the great egret all the way across the pond. At one point the great egret was so frantic that it almost crashed into the water.


Don't mess with those mud suckers!

You can view the Exif data of each picture by downloading and installing the opanda exif reader.
