That anhinga almost looks like two different creatures in that pose. Another name for them in the US is snakebird, because when swimming with the body submerged, the head and neck above the surfacereminds people ofa swimming snake, but in your photoone can see another reason!

Wonderful photos - and thanks for the identifications (inquiring minds want to know)!

Beautiful work, Jake! Always a treat to see more of yours from Africa. Although I have not been around much lately (and had to change user name) it is good to see you back.

Watched the shots in this posting again. Have to write again to express heartfelt appreciation. Really great works.Every shot has a clear focus in it and was dealt with in a serious manner inwhichanaesthetic sense could be felt. I especially like the way you capture the mood as reflected from the eyes of the creatures. Each eye reflected a specific mood,e g.#1 a mood of curiosity; #2 a mood of alertness; #3 a mood for companion; #6-7 a mood of coming of age having struggled inthe jungle for a life time. Congratulations.

Thanks VP, nice to hear from you again [the name change ??]

wk7leung, thanks for noticing and the appreciations -I do like a shot to tell a story, or convey a mood or emotion, otherwise, to me it's just another picture, so i try my best to put something in it to express the above, and eyes generally go a long way in conveying emotion. Thanks again !!

Thanks, Jake. You also, and was hoping to see more from your latest trip.

The name change was from updates on the forum. Most everyone else got signed back in, but no luck for me. A newb again. The name is from ariver that starts locally and runsall the way to the Gulf of Mexico. I have spent a fair amount of time tromping around in the area it drains.
