Several of you hinted at the number of geese that were sent into the air by a prowling eagle so I thought I would post the series of shots to show the true magnitude of that flock. I hope this isn't to repetitious.
As I said in the other thread, It was a gorgeous cacophany of cackling geese. The noise was thunderous and made me smile.
My guess was there were about 6 to 10 thousand geese in all unsettled by that Baldy. It was very

Everyone takes to the air.

More, and more take flight.

They start to settle back in.

Oops! Now the Snow Geese are unsettled.

So was the eagle looking for lunch?

I'm wondering if he didn't buzz the field just to watch the panic ensue.

These shots were taken at the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge near Willows Ca. It's smack dab in the middle of the Pacific flyway for migratory waterfowl. It's were I live on the weekends from November through February taking pictures. It's not unusual for them to have half a million ducks and geese on refuge at the peak of the migration.
If you get the chance you should check it out. I just checked and there are 260,000 ducks and about 70,000 white fronted geese on refuge right now and it's early in the season.

Here's a link to their website. http://www.fws.gov/sacramentovalleyr.../Sightings.htm
