An unusual photo, and I was very lucky to get it. Just as I stepped out of the car at a local wetland areaI saw this fellow aiming his camera up into a tree. I followed his line of sight and saw this great blue heron sitting in a tree on a branch. It had it's bill open and was flapping its tongue about, as though trying to cool itself. Thephotographer told me that just moments before I showed up the bird had been preening and that he had seen this behaviour before after birds preen. That could very well be. If you look closely at the tip of the lower bill you'll spot a bit of feather, no doubt stuck there from the heron's preening. Although the branch that runs across the front of the bird is pain (hey, we get what we can get) there was no other vanatage point available to me. But over all,I'm still pleased with the effect of the foliage on this capture. Cheers, Dan
