I shot this one this morning but I have no idea where to start looking to find out what species it is. Is it some sort of Finch? Also, does someone have a link to a websitefor bird identification...I like to do my own homework. :-)

Looks like a Ruby-crowned Kinglet to me. Here is a link to an excellent birding site:

Nice shot by the way!

Thanks Jim for the link, IDand the compliment. He/she was a tough bugger to get a decent shot of....very energetic bird to say the least. :G

Those Kinglets will drive you crazy! I have yet to get a real sharp shot of one.

Unfortunately, the only sharp one I got of it was when it climbed higher into the canopy and the second photo was the first in a series of 7 that I took but he caught me off guard when he made his apperance hence the fuzziness of the shot. The other 5 photo's are blurry as he hopped from branch to branch eating the seeds on the vine.

This is my next target but I can never get shots of them in their natural environment.

Wrens are more often heard than seen, so any decent picture of one is a keeper.

If this were a House Wren,it would be right at home, but it isn't - it is a Carolina Wren and you are in Virginia. What's in a name? Go figure. :G(Sorry - I am punchy from being up for 2 nights with a cold - I couldn't resist :()
