The male was displaying for a hen that seem less than interested, but did stay in the area and watched. 1/125sec @ 4.5 300mm without IS/VR ISO 800

1/125sec handheld? Very nice shooting Tom. Sharp and contrasty. That's some wild hairdo! Maybe he would have better luck with the ladies if he cut his hair.

Thanks, not only was it so overcast I couldn't get the speed up where I wanted it, but the wind was blowing about 20 mpg, which is why the black feathers on the neck look so soft.

Only had the 300 f/4.5 and didn't have any way to go back and get the 2.8.
