I had better luck today with the sharpness. I didn't use the extender and took most shots at F7.1.

These look awfully good to me Jim. Excellent detail, and I must say, I'm envious of your back yard. If I lived in a house instead of a condo, I'd probably blow more money on bird feed than on camera lenses....cheers....Don

Nice shots, Jim. I have to say though, that I would hate to pay the price you did for that lensto get F4 and IS..... and wind up having to shoot at F7.1 to get a sharp shot. Doesn't seem to be right.

Thanks for looking and commenting. It looks like the sun will be out today so I can practice some more. The feeders are only 25 feet away - that is why I'm experimenting with the aperture.The long lens on a tripod is completely foreign to me.
