the coots are back on our pond for the winter and spend a lot of time on shore. of course, it doesn't hurt that i bring a little bread with me. they are getting bolder so i am able to get better shots of them.

a few of the moorhens eat out of my hand.

thanks for the looks and comment. i really do love both these guys . . . the coolest of birds. now if i can just get a pic of them chasing each other around. both species do the same thing . . . they hunch their backs and chase after another. it's really funny to see.

You can definately tell what the feet do for the birds and how they're used.

Nice shots, Ellen! Now I know what the feet on the Coot look like. A while back, I tried and tried to get a shot of them, but they never came out of the grass to get a clear look at the feet. Thanks for sharing these.

nice shot of the coot. i'm glad you included the unique looking feet. they sort of remind me of gecko feet. you must have a wonderful pond in your neighborhood.

thanks, all.

you know i HAD to get the coot feet. once i saw them i had to lure the birds out onto the sidewalk. they are becoming much friendlier and thus easier to shoot.

thanks, hung, i DO have a great pond. i can't wait until the rest of the winter birds arrive . . . assuming i will be getting more. i noticed a pied-billed grebe the other day but it has not gotten close enough to get a good pic yet.

my orchid obsession has morphed into a photo shooting obsession. :|
