Thanks one and all. I appreciate your comments, always. I think the thing that impresses me most about this D300 is the fact that most of the shots require little or no post-processing. It's amazing, but these shots only took a minimum of adjustments. They probably didn't really even need that. The auto D-lighting seems to do a good job filling in the shadowed side of the hawks face. It even brought out more detail on that severly backlit pheasant than I could have imagined. Amazing.
