great stuff! the 40D is an excellent camera, and if you're like me, your 30D, when you get it back, will be your "back-up" body! :G

Excellent shooting Jim! The detail is superb! Looks like the 40d and 500L are a good match. I too have contemplated buying another body lately, as my 30d is still out of commission. I've been teasing myself looking for a used Mark II. Can't afford the Mark III at this point. Will keep the 30d, like Rocky, for a backup if and when I ever make the jump to a Mark series body. Keep up the great shooting...cheers...Don

Thanks again everyone.

Hung - so far I am quite pleased with the 40D. I probably wouldn't have upgraded from the 30D but I really had no choice. I like the larger screen, 2 second timer, and it could be my imagination, but it seems to focus faster. It's been so cold here lately I really haven't had enough time to really play with it. I know the 20D is a good camera (my friend has two) but it would probably be a nice upgrade for you. You can always keep the 20 as your backup.
