the sun came out today so i went to the park around 10 AM. this house finch was foraging among some old blackberry vines, and the light was perfect, so i snapped some shots... 40D, 100-400L @ 400mm, various shutter speeds, f/7.1

Nice shots Rockey! I envy yoou getting some sun today..almost came out herebut never really did.

I'm also getting a few of the house finches around here .. can't say I've ever seen them this red before. I hear the pigment varies with diet.

beautiful finch rocky. nice color saturation on the red feathers. looks like you had some great light to work with and a very cooperative male finch. happy new years dude.

thankls, guys. yeah, the light this morning was absolutely perfect... the sun's so low in the sky here in winter (never gets more than about 30 degrees above the horizon, even at noon!) that it's like late afternoon in summer, only the light isn't as "warm". but there's none of the harshness of summer sun, which makes it really nice when the sun does come out - which isn't often around here this time of year!

Lovely shots Rocky. These little guys are fun to watch when they start pigging out on the old blackberries. They can get downright messed up. ...cheers...Don

thanks, Don... funny, i wouldn't have thought those old shriveled-up blackberries would even be edible, but i guess these little guys find them quite tasty! :O

It is as you said, Rocky - the light is perfect. And so are your captures. Cheers, Dan
