Sheesh, Roger! I wish I could get some Bald Eagles that were "blown" that bad, I haven't been able to get closer than 1/4 mile around here.

You could go ahead and set your camera to shootRAW along with your selected jpg for a few shots and play with it. You can always go ahead and use jpg if need be. That camera seems to do a very good job with jpg to start with.

It seems like the sun is already getting high with these shots, which makes the lighting more harsh. You might try reducing contrastand try a test shot in the same conditions. I take a lot of shots (using the 400L 5.6) at ISO 800 and F8, Av,in good early to mid morninglight. I can reduce EC, get good shutter speeds and good detail. Of course, you can arrive at the same destination taking a different route.
