Found this Downy Woodpecker today as the temps went up to 28F (-2C)!

Great shot of a beautiful bird. I've been watching them at local parks around here - judging by their behaviour, it looks like they are getting ready to nest. Have you noticed that?

All the local birds are starting to pair up including wild turkeys where the Toms are collecting hens around here, but it has been too cold for them to do anything serious since winter doesn't want to ever end.

The birds that fly south have not started to come back yet. The Downy Woodpeckers around here seem to be more active than normal, but that may be the warmer above zero weather.

Yes it is the 300 2.8 and I am happy with it even though it is more of a lens with a camera attached.

It seems to be the most compact of the 300 2.8 lenses around but even so it is 10" long and weighs 4lb 8oz.
