For those of us who can't go on "safari" to capture photos of our feathered friends we have to make do with what's in our own back yard. I find that seagulls are the true "hams" of the bird world. They are always willing to strike a pose and let you get fairly close so you don't need that 500mm lens. This guy stayed in the same place for over a minute and gave me a variety of poses until he got bored and flew off to grab a slice of pizza someone had just thrown away.
