while i was wandering along the lake shore at my favorite park yesterday evening, i spotted a pair of wood ducks in a small cove. they were about 25 yards away, *almost* close enough to get a decent shot, but also far enough that i had to crop these fairly heavily... anyway, i managed a few shots before they swam off and the light failed me completely... i've noticed that the 100-400L, while it does an outstanding job in good light, is not quite asclear and sharpin low light as the Sigma...

Beauties Squirl!! Love the 2nd one with the lady stretching her wings. These look very sharp and detailed for a heavy crop. Do you shoot RAW or JPG? Shooting RAW can help squeeze a little more detail out of those heavy crops I've found....cheers..Don

thanks, guys. Don, i shoot mainly JPEG. i have RAW conversion software, but haven't ever gotten around to using it. i expect one of these days, i'll give RAW a try, but i just haven't seen enough difference between the images i get in JPEG and stuff shot in RAW to warrant using up the memory... i tend to shoot a lot of photos, and most times i'd rather get more pics in JPEG than use up my memory with RAW images that i might not even keep...
