here's a few more miscellaneous shots from the park yesterday. all taken with the 40D and 100-400L...

a chickadee enjoying the sunshine...



a song sparrow singing...



a mallard drake decided it was time to leave...



and a female bufflehead on final approach... i love how they stick their little feet out like air brakes... :lol:

thanks, Don... yeah, i think i've about got it down. took just a bit of getting used to, and a couple of trips to the service center to clear up the back focusing problem, but it seems right on the money now. i find i actually do better with it handheld than on a monopod... maybe it's just faster and easier to bring it into play, but i miss fewer shots, and with the stabilizer, i'm good to 1/160 or so, so even in relatively poor light it seems to work pretty well.
