For two or three months now, we have had a red tailed hawk who has taken up residence in our sports complex of a football stadium, baseball field, softball field, and practice fields. He tends to hang out on top of the baseball batting cages or scoreboard, but tonight he decided to take in a soccer match at the stadium. A perch atop one of the light towers provided an optimum view of the girls' match.

These shots taken with a Pentax K10d and a Phoenix 100-400mm. At halftime of the girls' match, I tried to get him to pose for me, but a look over the shoulder was all I could coax from him. (100% crop)

Halftime was a good time for grooming, but he did a 180 when he became aware of my presence. (100% crop)

Of course, there's always a spoil-sport in every crowd. In this case it was a crow who was determined to drive the hawk away. Didn't seem to have a lot of effect.

Earlier in the evening he had teased me by flying over me at an altitude of 25-30 feet while I was getting equipment out of my car and, of course, one of the things I had already unloaded and taken to the center of the field was my camera.

I've been trying to get a shot of this guy for weeks...seen him several times while conducting practices, but never when I had a camera in my hand.
