I stopped by the San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary late this afternoon. Sitting down next to a couple of bird photographers, I asked them if there was anything interesting going on there.

"The baby avocets have hatched," he replied.

"Where?!"

He pointed them out. They were tiny and fuzzy and seemed to be having fun mucking about in the mud.

4) This is a shot of the family. There were actually 3 little babies (one is out of focus). Sorry, they wouldn't cooperate for a nice family photo.

Those are all amazing shots. I can'tchoose which one I like best I wish I could get shots that are half as good. Great shots.

#1-3 are awesome. I think I like #1 best. The purple hue, the interesting bokeh, the details on the plumage, the avocet junior's absorption in looking for food, the silky touch of the reflection on the water surface ... and more importantly, the low plane from which this shot was taken. Must be flat on the ground hand-holding the 20D for this shot, I presume. The shots deserved to be mounted on the wall for appreciation.
