This morning I found myself a little bored with the same selection of birds that I get each day in my front yard, so I decided to shoot them a little differently, moving in tighter to focus more on the faces, then edit much more like a portrait. I was shooting with a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 with a 2X teleconverter, which meant I had to go up to ISO 1600 to get enough light on a morning when the sun was peeking in and out of the clouds. Nearly all are 100% crops.

Some o the birds cooperated, but this female Northern Cardinal wasn't at all comfortable with me being close.

The male, however, wasn't going to let my presence interfere with his enjoyment of sunflower seeds

This female Brown-Headed Cowbird is a frequent feeder visitor and was more than willing to cooperate

The little Tufted Titmouse and the Chickadees were the most skittish, but I got this Titmouse to hold still long enough for one shot

An Indigo Bunting

To get the Summer Tanager I had to go to the back yard as wasn't able to get as close, but I just love their coloring

nice going Paul!

too bad we couldn't find a way of getting more light down those long lenses!

Hmmm... maybe one of those 20 million candle power spot lights?
