Still on Lake Okeechobee, I came across this fine specimen perched atopa dead tree. I've looked at some reference photos but can'tpin it down. It's about the size of a smallish chicken. Any help would be appreciated.

It looks lile a Red-shouldered Hawk. The farther south in Florida you go, the paler they get. However, I have to say, In my years in Florida, I never saw one this pale north of the Florida Keys - but lot can happen over the years. Sounds like you had a memorable trip.

I thought I would take a guess before I read penolta's reply. Sure looks like a RSH, just not so much like the ones I am accustomed to seeing. Pretty bird and some nice shots, Dan.

Thanks Penolta and Vern. I checked around the Internet and yup, that looks like a RSH pale Florida form. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! Dan
