I should mention that while these moose are tolerant of human presence, they ARE still wild and unpredictable... especially the mothers with young... some are very skittish...and there are more injuries every year from Moose attacks than from Bear attacks..usually because someone inadvertantly got between a mom and her baby..

I always look around when I go outside my apartment.. there is 80 acres directly behind us.. I wouldnt want to walk in between a moose and her young... Many times I have walkedout and found moose right there--its always a bit of a shock... They are huge... Its difficult to appreciate how tall these animals are--7-8' at the withers... I mean THEY ARE HUGE..up to 1500 pounds.. Many car vs Moose accidents each year as well... they look big and dumb and slow...but they arent.. they can run 40 miles an hour... Usually...the Mom runs out and you think you've missed her...and then here comes the babe...

158 moose killings last year by cars... thats only here on the peninsula. I work at the local hospital and it is an admitting diagnosis.."Moose vs Car", just like MVA (motor Vehicle Accident) or pneumonia...

Here you can see a mom and brand newtwins crossing the street...

Welcome Colleen,

Thanks for posting these wonderful pics - truly amazing to find "urban" moose like that. Cheers, Dan
