Last July, I went out one morning on an early bike-trip trough the "Kennemer Dunes", a big stretch of coastal nature close to the NorthSea shores here in the Netherlands.

A really nice spot here is "Bird's Lake", a protected piece of water where lots of birds can thrive. Since recently, the local rangers decided to add big mammals to the animal stock. A group of (almost) self-supporting horses and cattle run free in a selected area around Bird's Lake, stimulating natural diversity by eating away several grasses and plants, giving rise to some other, rare plant species.

Being out on Bird's lake on an early though already warm summer morning was a magical experience. Both horses and wild cows took to the water to drink and cool down. At moments, it was as if I was looking down on a pre-historic picture with the masses of birds, the horses and long-haired cows down in the water.

Here are some shots, comments are welcome.

He (or she ?) was giving me the "don't come any closer" look and after taking the shot I quickly created some distance between us !

If you remove the birdwatching shelter in your mind's eye, isn't this a prehistoric picture ? It suddenly breathed such an atmosphere !
