Default young garter snake

here's a few pics i got of a young female garter snake i raked out of my leaves saturday afternoon. not the sharpest but it was hard to keep her still. tried to get an open mouth shot but she would not oblige.

These are great. She's in her strike position which is cool to see for a harmless garter snake. What did you do to try to get her to open her mouth?

Joshua, i was holding her in my hand and she was trying to bite me but i couldn't get her to turn towards the camera. i tried for a good 20 minutes and she just would not stay still long enough for a shot. so, i just took a bunch of other shots and let her go. she wouldn't strike either. even though she moved constantly, she was very passive.

All of them are good, but that third shot is outstanding. Compliments go to you...and to the snake for showing she was such a lady.

BTW, if you bother them enough (and it sure sounded like you did) they will in fact bite you. I know from first hand experience (or should I say "first forearm..."

The 2nd and 3rd are really good. But I like them all.

the snake bit me many times but it was too small to be effective. the snake was only about 8 or 10 inches long. she kept trying to bite my knuckles and teeth were way too tiny to grab any skin. i know how snakes bite. been bitten by a milk snake, 2 garter snakes and a 5 foot long banded water snake. the water snake bit took 6 months to heal. all bites were to the fingers and in between the fingers.

thanx all for the comments.

OK so it sounds like you're more experienced handling snakes then the average person. That's what I was trying to see.
