Default A really tough shot

This was taken at dusk up at a canyon nature center in the hills above where I live. This little guy ripped up to within about 7 feet of me and hovered just long enough for me to snag him. 300mm, 1/250 @ f/4, ISO 400. I had to push it 1/3 stop plus increase gamma to 1.09 as I underexposed to get a reasonable shutter speed.

Zip, Hover, Click, Zip. Great capture, really pretty color on the head and I like the shadow look of the upper part of the wing. Talk about always being ready.

Default Steve's forum software bites the dust again

My message got wrecked when I edited it, so I'll try to remember what I wrote before...

Brooks, it was more like:

THRUMMM, screech-to-a-halt; WHOA! check that out... whip it up, manually focus 'cause it's really pretty dark, click (did I get it?); Zipppp!

Here's a shot taken a little earlier before they started swarming:

and another taken just before the shot originally posted above:

Ron, beautiful shots. Really like the subtle light in the male Anna's. Great photo.

Thanks, Christie.

They are a total nightmare to get at dusk, but the opportunities abound if you're in the right place. I found a little oak-grove that they seem to swarm to in the evenings just before dark.

What I really need is a 30 oz. 300mm f/2 with thought-controlled turbo-focusing to catch the little boogers though.

Yeah, I could use one of those too.
