Default Semi-Palmated Plover - Another little guy...

I have no idea if this is the smallest Plover around, but he sure is little, only about six inches long - Although he gives the impression of being larger.

Here are five shots of this little Plover

A bad hair day...

The same bird, after getting his act together.

Here he is standing in front of his name sake, the Semi-Palmated Sandpiper.

Waiting to see what the surf will toss up.

A portrait

Unlike stinking Warblers and Sparrows, even I can tell one Plover apart from another. Identifying the two families above has caused me to develop wonderful recipies for eating Crow - So far so good with the plovers...

In my area (Southern New York) these guys are basically Marine birds, and you have to live by the Ocean - Whereas a Plover like the Killdeer, is quite happy in salt or fresh water. But you never know. Two years ago I shot a flock of misguided Avocets, who while migrating, took a wrong turn in Ohio, and wound up in Brooklyn.
