Default The Brant Goose

This little Goose, who looks so much like his Canadian relative, is I believe, the smallest Goose in the world (corrections welcome). He's about the same size as a large duck. They used to live exclusively on eel grass. About twenty years ago, for unknown reasons the eel grass died off and the Brandt almost became extinct. Some unknown genious goose, said, "Look guys, why not try eating grass and grass seeds? And so they did.

And to top it off, the eel grass has also made a recovery.

This Goose can only be seen in marine environments. Unlike his Canadian cousin, they are never seen inland.

Living in the ocean can be rough...

This flock, was eating grass and seeds on a highway divider. In this case the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn, a few hundred yards from the sea. They saw me photographing them, and were obviously concerned about their privacy

A portrait
