Default Baby Squirrel

I was sitting at my computer when I heard a commotion out side from some school kids walking down the street screaming and hollering. I went out to see what was up.(with camera in hand) one of the girls had kicked a pile of Spanish moss on the ground and, discovered two baby squirrels that had blown out of the oak tree. one of the boys had picked one up and was chasing the girl with it. After taking a few shots, I told him to put it down and leave them alone. (he was planing on taking it home) when I went back in the house to change lenses and came back out, they were gone and I could only find one baby. I think he took one anyway.

55-300mm @ 135mm, 1/125 - f:4.5 no flash
whoa... that was a close one...

Thanks mister, for saving me.

OK... I think I'll go now...

When I came back with the SP90mm I found this one hiding under a clump of moss.

Then I asked if he'd mind posing for a couple shots...
Tamron SP 90 f:22 - 1/250sec with flash

then I covered him back up and left. I hope his mommy comes and get him.

Thank you Hard, I also posted this on the Pentax forum and discovered they are flying squirrels. I thought they were but wasn't sure, now I know.

Yep its a flying squirrel. Easy to tell by the flat tail, large eyes (nocturnal) and folds between front and rear legs. Does look like a baby but you can't always tell. I had one as a free roaming house pet for 4 years and it was no larger than a small hamster. Cool pictures. Hope he made it.

Personally I never get tired of squirrel images, and these are really, really good. And to top it off, it's difficult to see a flying squirrel at any time, let alone babies. And these are definitely babies, otherwise you wouldn't be able to take so many shots.
