The crazy thing about it is, technically we "missed the whales" too. We had to leave to come home on Dec 14th, and all the whale watching cruises start literally the next day. We heard people around saying they'd seen some humpbacks breaching from the shore, so we booked a regular ol' sunset cruise for that night, in hopes we'd get lucky. And boy, did we! I'll never have an experience quite like that if I live to be 100, although I hope I do. It was terrifying, amazing, surreal, almost spiritual.

I picture you guys like the scene in Airplane, lining up to slap that lady who won't calm down

I watched the video, too - truly a close encounter. As I watched, the thought struck me that when everybody rushed all at once from one side of the boat to the other, the encounter could have been closer yet!
