Yes, they look different....... they look more interesting. Nicely done, I like these shots quite a bit.

You're not missing anything. They aren't the best lookers. Not like your Common. I think the American White Pelicans are much prettier than the Brown's. Much Bigger too.
Cheers

They are all nice, but the first one would look good mounted and all for display... I really think you have a good picture there that captures the eye and imagination... Great photo, really... and thanks for sharing it.

Oh, by the way, the way you have the depth of field in the first... it could not be better to be so well blurred... if it was any sharper, I am afraid it would detract from the subject... This is just a spot on picture.

The first two are great portraits - you really nailed that first one right between the eyes! Well done!

We tend to lose appreciation for familiar things. Your pelicans look interesting to us in part because they are unfamiliar and in part because they show some color (related to breeding?). Our Browns are more interesting in full breeding plumage when they are not nearly so blah looking as they are during the rest of the year. Trouble is, they don't keep it very long.

Those pastel beaks really are striking. Do Aussie pelicans also form rings in shallow water to herd fish together?
