Default A few critters from the desert.

While hiking around the desert for a couple of days we crossed paths with some critters that were not used to seeing. Here are a few we saw along the trail.

1. A red beetle.

2. The elusive Horny Toad

3. This little guy had a bad day. When we came across him he was stuck on a cactus. My wife took a stick to help him out but he ended up loosing his tail.

Great pics Mike, and thanks from an animal lover for helping the lizard. The Horny Toad sure brings back memories...Fire ants here in the south have rendered them extinct here, when they used to be plentiful...

Nice series! I remember seeing horned toads in almost any pet shop I'd walk into when I was a kid. Don't see any of 'em anymore.

Cool photos, Mike.
Been a while since I've seen a horny toad.

Love horny toads - I used to catch them when I was a kid and feed them crickets.

Thanks for the kind replies.

We were very surprised to see the horned toad, I spend quite a bit of time in the desert and haven't seen one since around 1980.
