Torgny

Lovely black black-bird - so glossy.

Lately I've taken photos of black birds. They look OK until I upload them, then the black becomes blotchy. I've put a shot of a scarlet robin in the Critiques section asking for advice (http://forums.steves-digicams.com/ph...ing-birds.html and http://forums.steves-digicams.com/wi...redbreast.html). The same happened with my pied currawong shots (http://forums.steves-digicams.com/wi...currawong.html). Do you have any suggestions as to how I can overcome this?

Bernice,

Been there, done some of that. Been traing on one of my dogs, a black Reindeer Herder. Side light, perhaps spot metering, central focus point may do the trick

Keep the thread at ............. alive. We need all the tips

Ned,

Thank you. Forgot the female. Another light. Backlight. Postprocessed to bring out details in the plumage

Yes, blackbird female - she's brown

And here's me saying to myself 'oh, so both the male and female blackbirds must be black. Torgny only posted the one.' That feather detail is just delightful. What pp did you do to bring out the details and was this because the backlighting made the front too dark?

onlooker,

flutelady,

Caryl,

Thanks for viewing and commenting. I have this close picture of their nest and eggs. Think the colour is described as "coral blue" - well, they are not so close to coral reefs - .....
