Beautiful shots there! That barbed wire looks like the one I get a lot of shots from here at my place. I have never seen a painted bunting in real life, only images. Thanks for sharing.

The name almost fooled me. Unbelieveable colours. You should see our species. Most of them are colourless in comparizon to the overseas species. You are lucky

For some reason they are called "Pope Finch" over here. Why - no idea

As for why they are called Pope Finch its probably because they pope all over the place.

Regrettably it has never been seen over here, as far as I know. Yes, once, 1 adult male 11-15 juni 1976, with certainty a run away, sorry, fly away cage bird

On the name: the species belongs to the Cardinal family. So the name is perhaps a step up to honour the "primus inter pares", the Pope himself

For sure the men of cloth are interested in colourful dresses as well as some more harmful inclinations
