Default Whooper Swans - Adults And Juveniles

As pointed out by Penolta these are Whooper Swans (in English), not Mute Swans (in English). They are monogamous. Not exactly high quality pictures but I wanted to show the variation

The pictures are optimized for slideshows. The slideshow button is at the upper right. Please use your loudspeakers. There is some music, progressive music from the seventies in the different galleries.

The Mute Swan is monogamous and both sexes share in building and caring for the nest and for incubating and raising their young

Nice to see this family of Whooper Swans (Cygnus cygnus) - we don't get these in North America (except in the Aleutian Islands). They are closely related to our Trumpeter Swans (Cygnus buccinator). Thanks for posting them.

Penolta,

Long time. Yes it's the Cygnus cygnus (yellow beak), not the Cygnus olor (red beak), which are much more common over here

The names in my language are "Sångsvan" (= Song Swan) for the Cygnus cygnus - they fly completely silently but brings the sound of spring when they fly to nest in the north

The Cygnus olor is named "Knölsvan" (Knob Swan). Don't know why they are called Mute Swans in English - They sure are heard when flying, and they have a much less pleasing ....... than the cygnus

I'll see to that the title of the thread is corrected. Wish you a nice weekend

Torgny

I like them a lot. They are beautiful

(I have never seen the Trumpeter Swan but it looks beautiful on many pictures. I would describe the "sound" of The Cygnus cygnus as trupet-like; very much so)

This is the Mute Swan, Cygnus olor, for comparison

Another season
